If you aren’t happy with the appearance of your teeth, don’t forget to consider the benefits of dental veneers. Veneers are thin shells placed over your natural teeth. These shells are made to match the color of your teeth and to cover imperfections such as gaps, chips, and spots on your pearly whites. While your veneers are strong and built to last, there are a few things you should do to care for them.

Normal brushing and flossing won’t damage your veneers. In fact, brushing and flossing is extremely important if you’re interested in preserving your veneers for as long as possible. So you should remember to brush your teeth like you would normally—for two minutes at a time twice a day. You should also floss daily.

While it’s very important for you to brush your teeth, and to brush your teeth well, it’s also important that you choose non-abrasive toothpaste. We recommend using toothpaste made for those with sensitive teeth and avoid toothpastes with silica or calcium carbonate. If you use toothbrushes with these ingredients, you could damage your veneers. We’ll also be happy to offer you specific advice on the best toothpastes you should consider.

Finally, please remember that you shouldn’t bite down on ice, pens, or metal. Doing so can crack your veneers.
